Description:
In the Living Room is a live performance of improvised soundscape and projected real-time writing by artist duo Betty C Fan and Hannah Dowling. Through an intimate study of presence, this performance shapes a dialogue that unfolds through instinct, listening, and response. Neither fully composed nor entirely spontaneous, it lingers in the space between order and impulse, where meaning emerges through instant exchange.

This performance, emerges at a time when nowadays, most communication is mediated, delayed, or algorithmically filtered, thus compelling the viewer to question the scarcity of which moments of true immediacy have become rare. In the Living Room, presence is not passive. Rather, the artists propose ‘presence’ as a material itself. Through their dialogue, each vibration, pause, and phrase captures not just sound or speech, but the shared frequency of being alive in the very same moment, between the artists and the audience.

The living room becomes a site of unfolding, carrying an atmosphere shaped through affection. Not sentimentality, but a sensitivity to the energy created within this space, which carries the potential to question, influence, and inspire. Through this act of real-time making, Betty and Hannah open the living room to experience the unpredictable texture of now, to listen closely to what is passing, and to inhibit the moment before it slips into memory and becomes history.
